Charan Sethi

Charan Sethi originally hails from the city of Jalandhar in the Indian state of Punjab. At the age of 13 he moved to the United Kingdom with his two siblings where his father had been working as a carpenter since 1958. Following graduation in 1968 from a high school in Southall, he became a machinist. In 1976, at the ripe old age of 25, he came to Canada with his wife and their first child, first to Toronto and then finally to Richmond in 1978.

Working three jobs at one point; machinist during the day, pizza delivery man at night and construction worker on weekends, Charan knew he needed to move away from the trades-driven job where he felt growth was limiting. With enough savings to keep his family afloat for a year, Charan trained to be a real estate agent in 1984 and in 1985 became a full-time realtor where he earned numerous awards and honors over the years. He also learned how to become a ‘one-stop shop’ for real estate developer clients, streamlining services like “assembling, rezoning, designing, selling and servicing new home projects”, so in 2001, Sethi took the first step into the development arena through niche single-family and multi-family projects and immersed himself into the development industry. He founded Tien Sher Group of Companies in 2003 and began his new journey.

Tien Sher was created with the goal of creating housing affordability through innovative new home solutions for the changing needs of home buyers. After nearly two decades, it has evolved into a mid-sized, vertically integrated development and construction company that strives to provide future-friendly home projects for the changing needs of Metro Vancouver area homebuyers. Charan is the Surrey Board of Trade’s Philanthropist of the year and Businessperson of the year, 2017 and 2019 respectively.
